How far and how fast can a kangaroo jump?
A kangaroo can jump as far as 30 feet and as fast as 40 mph.

What do kangaroos eat in captivity?
Kangaroos are plant-eaters, which means they eat lots of grass/hay, fruits, vegetables, a specially made pellet for them called "Happy Hopper" and wheat bread.

What noises do kangaroos make?
A male kangaroo will cluck at a female to reassure her when he's trying to mate with her and kangaroos of either gender will growl preparatory to fighting.

What is a male kangaroo called?
A male kangaroo is called a buck or boomer.

What is a female kangaroo called?
A female kangaroo is called a doe or a flyer.

What are baby kangaroos called?
A baby kangaroo is called a joey.

What is a group of kangaroos called?
Kangaroos are social animals that live in families or mobs of at least 2 or 3 individuals and up to 100 kangaroos.

How many different species of kangaroo are there?
There are around seventy different species of kangaroos. We house only six different species of kangaroo currently at The Roo Ranch.

What is the natural life span of a kangaroo?
It is difficult to judge how long a kangaroo lives in the wild. We can make estimates judging by the state of their teeth. In good conditions, the larger kangaroos can live into their twenties.

Do male kangaroos have pouches?
No. There is no male marsupial of any species that has a pouch. The pouch is part of the female reproductive anatomy.

How do they handle the winters?
The wallabies are actually native to the mountainous areas, so they love the snow. The larger kangaroos stay in the heated barn during the cold days.

Where did you get your kangaroos from?
We have purchased our wallabies and kangaroos from different people within the United States. Even though kangaroos are native to Australia, they very rarely allows live native animals out of their country.
